CAF and PUMA Unveil Official Match Ball for AFCON 2025 in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF), in partnership with global sports brand PUMA, has unveiled the Official Match Ball for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025.

Named ITRI, the ball draws inspiration from Morocco’s traditional zellij art – known for its beautiful geometric mosaic patterns – and symbolises the unity and passion of African football. The name also pays tribute to the star on Morocco’s national flag and reflects the star motifs often found in zellij designs.

The ITRI ball combines centuries-old Moroccan craftsmanship with modern sports technology through PUMA’s advanced Orbita 6 design, ensuring top performance for elite competition. It will make its official debut on 21 December 2025, when the tournament kicks off in Morocco.

A Design Inspired by Culture and Unity

The ITRI’s eye-catching look features traditional Moroccan zellij patterns, with:

  • Star geometry representing ambition and excellence on Africa’s biggest football stage.
  • Petal shapes symbolising celebration and growth.
  • Circular symmetry reflecting the unity of the 24 nations competing at AFCON 2025.

The ball also includes “Flow of Movement” designs that express the rhythm and flair of African football. Its red and green colour scheme embodies passion, hope, and national pride – echoing Morocco’s colours.

Blending Heritage and Innovation

According to CAF Creative Development Manager Mohamed Ghonemi, the ITRI ball captures “art, motion, and a design shaped by African spirit and Moroccan craftsmanship.”

He added: “It’s been a privilege to collaborate with PUMA on something that unites every nation at the tournament through a shared sense of connection.”

PUMA’s Director for EEMEA Distribution, Peter Dangl, said the company is proud to present a ball that “combines Moroccan artistry with advanced performance technology,” adding that it reflects PUMA’s “lasting commitment to African football and the communities that bring it to life.”

The design process began soon after Morocco was named host, involving months of cultural research, creative exploration, and performance testing. The result is a ball that celebrates African culture while meeting the highest standards of professional play.

The TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 will bring together Africa’s best footballing nations from 21 December 2025, and fans can purchase the ITRI ball in selected markets for a recommended retail price of €130.
