‘It is What It is’ – Calvin Bassey Reacts to Nigeria’s World Cup Setback

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has expressed his sadness after Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Canada, the USA and Mexico.

Nigeria’s hopes ended in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday after they lost 4–3 to Morocco on penalties in the playoff final.

Bassey played very well in defence for the Super Eagles, but he could not score Nigeria’s first penalty in the shootout.

He stepped up to take the opening spot-kick but sent the ball over the crossbar.

In the mixed zone after the match, the Fulham defender said only a few words to reporters: “It was nice. A lot happened but it is just what it is.”

Bassey will now return to Fulham, who play in-form Sunderland in the Premier League next weekend.

This also means he may face DR Congo midfielder Noah Sadiki again, if both players are fit to feature.
