Super Eagles Move Up in Latest FIFA Ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed three places to 38th in the latest FIFA ranking, despite missing out on qualification for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
The new ranking, released by FIFA on Wednesday, followed a busy international window that featured many matches across the world. For Nigeria, the rise comes as a small consolation after their heartbreaking exit in the African World Cup qualifying play-offs.
The Super Eagles were unable to secure a spot in the inter-confederation play-offs, but their strong performances in Morocco helped them gain valuable points. Their impressive 4–1 extra-time win over Gabon played a major role in lifting the team from 41st to 38th.
In that match, Victor Osimhen scored twice while Chidera Ejuke netted his first senior goal for Nigeria, helping push the team into the play-off final. Although Nigeria later drew 1–1 with DR Congo and lost on penalties, the earlier results were enough to boost their global standing.
The new position places the Super Eagles among the top-ranked teams in Africa and gives the squad renewed confidence as they look ahead to future competitions.
