Osimhen to Miss Champions League Clash as Galatasaray Monitor Hamstring Injury

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League match due to a minor hamstring injury.

The Nigerian forward picked up the injury during Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against DR Congo last Sunday and was taken off at half-time. He returned to Istanbul immediately for assessment and treatment.

Tests carried out by Galatasaray confirmed a small hamstring tear, which will keep him out for a few days. As a result, he also missed the club’s 3–2 home win over Genclerbirligi in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday. Osimhen, however, was seen in the stands supporting his teammates and later left the stadium with fellow Nigerian Henry Onyekuru.

Osimhen has been in brilliant form in the Champions League, scoring six goals and leading the competition’s scoring chart. He had featured in Galatasaray’s last three matches in the tournament after missing the opening game against Eintracht Frankfurt. His absence on Tuesday against Royale Union SG means rivals such as Harry Kane, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappé now have a chance to catch up.

Galatasaray will check Osimhen’s fitness again on Friday to decide when he can return. The club hopes he will recover in time for Monday’s league match against fierce rivals Fenerbahçe, one of the biggest fixtures in Turkish football.

The Turkish champions remain cautious, wanting to avoid any setback for a player who has become one of their most important stars this season.
