Super Eagles Defender Benjamin Fredrick Set to Miss 2025 AFCON Due to Injury

Super Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick will miss next month’s Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a knee injury while training with Belgian club FC Dender.
According to BBC Sport broadcaster Oluwashina Okeleji, Fredrick was injured shortly after returning from Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers playoff. He played in all the matches as the Super Eagles fell short of reaching the Intercontinental playoff, losing to DR Congo.
The 20-year-old is expected to return to action after the AFCON tournament. Head coach Eric Chelle has reportedly already chosen a replacement, with the updated squad set to be announced soon.
Currently on loan from Brentford, Fredrick had become a key player in Nigeria’s defence, stepping into the role previously held by captain William Troost-Ekong.
