World Cup Qualifier: D’Tigers Captain Speaks After Narrow Loss to Tunisia

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, suffered a tight overtime defeat to Tunisia in the 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifying series, despite putting up a strong fight.

Team captain, Ike Nwamu, said after the match that the loss came mainly from a lack of organisation and limited time spent together before the qualifiers. He explained that the players were still trying to build understanding on the court and that this affected their performance at crucial moments.

According to Nwamu, turnovers also played a big part in the result. He noted that similar mistakes were seen during the AfroBasket qualifiers and admitted that they must improve in that area if they want to progress.

He remained hopeful, however, saying the squad is still new and growing together. He added that with more time to bond, the results will get better.

D’Tigers will now turn their attention to their next game against Guinea, where they hope to respond positively and revive their qualification chances.
