Lookman Scores Again as Atalanta Beat Fiorentina 2–0

Ademola Lookman continued his brilliant form on Sunday evening, scoring the second goal in Atalanta’s important 2–0 win over struggling Fiorentina at the Gewiss Stadium.

The Nigerian forward, who has been in top shape in the Champions League, proved again why he is Atalanta’s most valuable attacker as the Africa Cup of Nations approaches.

Atalanta’s new manager, Raffaele Palladino, celebrated his first Serie A victory, ending the team’s eight-match run without a win. Fiorentina started brightly and almost scored in the fifth minute, but goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi made two superb saves to stop Moise Kean and Roberto Piccoli. At the other end, David De Gea kept Fiorentina in the match with an excellent stop from Charles De Ketelaere.

Atalanta took the lead just before half-time. Odilon Kossounou’s curling cross-shot surprised De Gea and made it 1–0.

Six minutes after the break, Lookman struck. After a scramble from a corner, the ball fell kindly for him, and he smashed it into the net to make it 2–0. Atalanta stayed in control for the rest of the match, earning a much-needed victory and moving further away from danger.

Lookman’s goal takes his Serie A tally to two this season, showing that the former Everton winger is hitting form at the perfect time for both club and country. Fiorentina, however, remain in the bottom three and continue to struggle under coach Paolo Vanoli.
