Calvin Bassey Scores as Fulham Beat Burnley In the Premier League

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey scored his first goal of the season, while winger Samuel Chukwueze provided an assist as Fulham claimed a 3-2 away win over Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

Bassey, Chukwueze and midfielder Alex Iwobi all started for Fulham for the second game in a row, and the Nigerian trio played key roles as Marco Silva’s side recorded only their second away league victory of the season.

Fulham took the lead in the ninth minute when Emile Smith Rowe finished calmly after Burnley failed to clear Harry Wilson’s cross into the box. The hosts responded in the 21st minute, with Lesley Ugochukwu scoring his third goal of the season following a fine assist from Josh Cullen.

Ten minutes later, Burnley were caught out again at the back. Another Harry Wilson delivery caused problems, and Calvin Bassey rose highest to head the ball into the net, restoring Fulham’s lead and silencing the home fans.

Fulham extended their advantage 13 minutes into the second half. Samuel Chukwueze drove into the Burnley penalty area before laying the ball off to Wilson, who curled a fine shot into the bottom corner to make it 3-1. The assist was Chukwueze’s fourth of the season, the most by any Fulham player.

Burnley pulled one goal back late on, with Oliver Sonne scoring in the 86th minute. However, Fulham defended well in the closing stages to secure all three points.

The win moves Fulham up to 13th place on the Premier League table with 20 points, while Burnley remain 19th with 10 points.

Fulham will next face Newcastle United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday. After that, the club will be without Bassey, Chukwueze and Iwobi, who are set to join the Super Eagles for preparations ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
