Happy New Year! AFCON Round of 16 Fixtures Confirmed

Happy New Year from all of us at SportsRation. As we step into 2026, it is only fitting that our first story of the year focuses on the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with all eyes on the continent to see who will emerge as kings of African football.
The fixtures for the Round of 16 at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 have been confirmed following an exciting group stage that showcased the quality and depth of African football.
The knockout phase will run from Saturday, 3 January to Tuesday, 6 January, with two matches played each day. Kick-off times are set for 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT) and 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT) as the remaining teams battle for a place in the quarter-finals.
The action begins on Saturday as Senegal, champions in 2021, face Sudan at the Grand Stade de Tangier. Later that evening, Mali will take on Tunisia at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, with both sides chasing continental glory.
On Sunday, hosts Morocco will face Tanzania at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat. Morocco topped Group A and will be backed by a passionate home crowd as they continue their quest for a first AFCON title in 50 years. Later in Rabat, South Africa will clash with Cameroon, with coach Hugo Broos facing the team he led to the title in 2017.
Monday’s matches will see record seven-time champions Egypt play Benin at the Grand Stade de Agadir. Egypt are aiming to end their long wait for a title, having last lifted the trophy in 2010. Later that night, Nigeria will face Mozambique at the Complexe Sportif de Fès, as the Super Eagles look to improve on their runner-up finish at the 2023 edition.
The Round of 16 will conclude on Tuesday with Algeria taking on DR Congo in Rabat, before defending champions Cote d’Ivoire meet Burkina Faso at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.
The quarter-finals are scheduled for 9–10 January, while the final will be played on 18 January at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
