Peterside Idah Predicts Eric Chelle’s Exit as Tunisia Show Strong Interest

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peterside Idah believes Eric Chelle could leave his role as Nigeria’s head coach in the coming days amid strong interest from Tunisia.
Chelle was appointed just over a year ago, with a contract that included a possible one-year extension if Nigeria qualified for the 2026 World Cup. That target was not met after the Super Eagles failed to qualify through both the automatic places and the continental play-offs.
Despite this setback, the Nigeria Football Federation kept faith with Chelle and allowed him to lead the team to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. His side responded with an impressive run, winning their first five matches, scoring 14 goals and keeping two clean sheets. Nigeria reached the semi-finals before losing to hosts Morocco on penalties after a goalless draw.
The team’s performances at the tournament improved Chelle’s reputation and attracted interest from other countries. Tunisia are believed to be leading the race, with reports suggesting they have made a strong offer. The proposed deal is said to be worth about $100,000 per month, more than double his current salary.
Tunisia have also already qualified for the 2026 World Cup, which adds to the appeal of the move. Coaching at a World Cup would be a major achievement for Chelle’s career.
Peterside Idah said he would not be surprised if Chelle accepted the offer, noting that the financial package and the chance to coach a World Cup team could be difficult to turn down. While the NFF are keen to keep him, Chelle’s future with the Super Eagles now appears uncertain.
