NLO Extends Registration Deadline, Returns to Stadium League Format

The Nationwide League One (NLO) has announced an extension of the registration deadline and a return to the stadium league format for the 2026 season.

The decisions were taken during the league’s Extraordinary Congress held on 28 February 2026 via Zoom. The meeting was called to address concerns raised by many club owners about the upcoming season.

As part of the new resolutions, the registration deadline has been extended by two weeks. Clubs now have until 14 March 2026 to complete their registration process, including all necessary documents and financial payments.

League officials described the extension as final and urged clubs to use the extra time wisely to avoid missing out on the new season.

In a major development, the NLO has also agreed to return to the stadium league format. This means matches will be played at approved neutral venues, as previously practised.

The earlier proposed format for the 2026 campaign has now been postponed until the 2027 season.

According to the league board, the decision to revert to centralised stadium venues was made after clubs raised concerns about high travel costs, logistics and the burden of managing match facilities individually.

The NLO said the move is aimed at reducing expenses, improving organisation and ensuring a more competitive and stable season, especially in light of current economic challenges.

The league body added that detailed match schedules and designated centres will be announced soon through its official communication channels.

The NLO thanked clubs and stakeholders for their continued support in developing grassroots football across Nigeria.
