Valverde’s Late Strike Gives Real Madrid Crucial Win at Celta Vigo

Federico Valverde scored deep into stoppage time as Real Madrid secured a dramatic victory over Celta Vigo in a La Liga match, keeping pressure on league leaders FC Barcelona.

The midfielder’s late shot took a big deflection off Marcos Alonso before going into the net, handing Real Madrid their first league win in three matches.

Real Madrid started the game strongly and took the lead early when Aurélien Tchouaméni fired a shot that bounced in off the woodwork. Moments earlier, Vinícius Júnior had also come close after striking the post.

However, Celta Vigo responded quickly. England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was beaten on the wing by Williot Swedberg, who delivered a cross that allowed Borja Iglesias to score the equaliser.

Real Madrid manager Álvaro Arbeloa had to cope without several key players. Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga all missed the match because of injuries.

Despite the setbacks, Valverde’s late goal ensured Real Madrid collected all three points. The victory moves them to within one point of Barcelona in the title race.

Barcelona will have a chance to extend their lead again when they travel to face Athletic Club on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid will turn their attention to European competition as they prepare to host Manchester City F.C. in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
