Plumptre, Ordega Miss Out as Al Ittihad Finish Second in Saudi Leagu

Nigeria internationals Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega have missed out on the Saudi Women’s Premier League title after their club, Al Ittihad Women, finished second behind champions Al Nassr Women.
Al Ittihad enjoyed a strong season but could not match the consistency of Al Nassr, who secured the title before the final round of matches scheduled for 23 April. The champions extended their dominance by winning the league for the fourth consecutive time, finishing well ahead of their closest rivals.
Plumptre, who joined Al Ittihad in 2023, played an important role in the team’s progress this season. The Super Falcons defender helped improve the side from seventh place last term to a second-place finish. She was solid in defence and also contributed in attack, making her one of the standout players in the league.
Ordega also made valuable contributions in the final third, using her experience to support the team’s push for the title. However, her efforts were not enough to close the gap on Al Nassr.
The league was more competitive this season, with the number of teams reduced to eight following the withdrawal of some clubs. Despite this, Al Nassr remained consistent throughout the campaign and showed their quality once again.
Al Ittihad’s second-place finish confirms their growth as one of the top sides in the league, but for Plumptre and Ordega, it will be seen as a missed chance to win a major trophy.
Following the title win, Cristiano Ronaldo congratulated the women’s team. The Portuguese forward shared a message on social media, praising their achievement.
Al Nassr Women have now won every edition of the league since its inception, underlining their position as the dominant force in Saudi women’s football.
