Osimhen Plans Nigerian Media Trip, Targets Derby Return
Victor Osimhen is planning to bring Nigerian football culture to one of Turkey’s biggest matches while also racing to recover from injury ahead of the game.
The Super Eagles striker is reportedly organising a special trip for selected Nigerian media personalities and influencers to attend Galatasaray’s Intercontinental Derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26, 2026. The trip is expected to include flights, accommodation and match tickets, all funded by the player.
Some Nigerian social media figures, including AsiwajuLerry and BuchiLaba, have already been linked to the plan after being tagged by Osimhen online. The move is seen as part of his effort to strengthen the connection between Turkish football and Nigerian fans.
The derby could be crucial in the title race, with Galatasaray currently leading the league. Osimhen has played a key role this season, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists in 19 league matches. He has also recorded seven goals and three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League appearances.
At the same time, the striker is working to return from a fractured right forearm suffered during a Champions League match against Liverpool FC in March. He underwent surgery and has now started light training as part of his recovery.
Doctors have approved the use of protective gear, which could allow him to return before the injury fully heals. Although he is expected to miss several matches, there is growing belief he could be fit in time for the derby.
A Turkish journalist, Ali Naci Küçük, said the forward is likely to feature in the match unless there is a setback. Osimhen has also expressed confidence, reportedly saying, “Don’t worry, President. I will be on the field, and we will be champions.”
If he returns in time, it would be a major boost for Galatasaray in what could be a decisive match in their title push.
