Injury Blow for Super Falcons as Esther Okoronkwo Faces Spell on the Sidelines
Nigeria’s build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has suffered a major setback after Super Falcons striker Esther Okoronkwo picked up a knee injury that could keep her out for about six weeks.
The forward suffered the injury while playing for Canadian club Toronto AFC during a league match against Halifax Tides FC earlier this week. Early medical reports suggest she damaged her meniscus.
Despite the injury concern, there is still hope that the Nigerian star will regain fitness before the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations begins on July 25 in Morocco.
Okoronkwo has become an important player for the Super Falcons in recent years, making her absence a worrying issue for the coaching crew and supporters.
The attacker was one of Nigeria’s standout players during the last tournament, where she scored two goals and provided six assists to help the team remain among Africa’s top sides.
Her expected recovery before the competition would be a big advantage for Nigeria as the Super Falcons continue their push for another African title.
