Rose confident he can win The Masters

Justin Rose knows he is capable of winning The Masters and would quickly take a repeat of his performance last year.

The Englishman was tied for second at Augusta in 2015, a performance forgotten after Jordan Spieth’s stunning wire-to-wire win.

PGA: The Masters - Practice Round

Rose was four shots adrift of the winner, but said he had proven he was good enough to win a green jacket.

“Last year I was able to put four [rounds] together in a row and if I look back, I look back at the 16th green and I had a putt to get to 16 under par,” he said.

“That level of performance obviously would’ve won many major championships and essentially I was beaten by an all-time great performance.

“I take a lot of confidence from that. Any other year or many other years, that level of performance is good enough to win.

“If you get beaten by the better guy on the week, you tip your cap, but I know what I was able to do last year tells me I’ve got what it takes to win the tournament going forward.”

Asked if he would take the same scores again, Rose replied: “For the next 10 years, sure. Absolutely. I sure would.”

Despite that, the world number nine comes into the year’s first major outside of those being spoken about as potential winners.

That, however, is no problem for the 35-year-old 2013 U.S. Open champion.

“I think golf is in a great spot right now with the world number one trading around and the young guys really vying for that top spot. That’s fine with me,” Rose said.

“I think I’ve sort of been steady, I haven’t really had any fireworks this year to come in here with people having me at the front of their mind.

“But I really feel that all of my backroom work has all been fantastic, my preparation has been coming along nicely so [I’m] under the radar, but certainly feeling good with my game.”
