South Africa raise concerns over Australia day-night Test

Australia’s proposed day-night Test against South Africa is under threat, with the tourists unwilling to play in unfamiliar conditions.

The pink-ball Test against New Zealand in Adelaide in November last year proved successful despite lasting just three days.

South Africa are yet to play a five-day match in the conditions ahead of their tour of Australia later this year and that has put the game in jeopardy.

“Our players are not in favour of playing the game under those conditions,” South African Cricketers’ Association chief Tony Irish told News Corp Australia.

“The main reason is we feel disadvantaged. Not one of our players who will compete in that Test has played Test match cricket or any cricket with a pink ball.”

Australia claimed a three-wicket win over New Zealand in last year’s day-night Test and neither team managed to score more than 224, but the greater balance between bat and ball was praised afterwards.
