Star Sixes: Nigeria lose to Italy, battle Brazil tonight

Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s goal was not enough for Nigeria at the O2 Arena on Friday as Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against Italy at the ongoing Star Sixes.

Having won their first game against China 3-2, Nigeria came into their second game brimming with confidence but a repeat of Italy 94 scoreline denied Nigeria Legends their pound of flesh and the second win of the tournament.

Del Piero put Italy in front when he tapped in from close range after Rufia spilled a shot to his path. Fiore doubled the Azzurri’s lead after tapping home a corner near the goal keeper.

Yakubu Aiyegbeni then smashed home from close range to bring Nigeria back into the game but it was just about it as Italy hung on to their 2-1 lead.

In the other result involving teams in Nigeria’s group, Brazil smashed China 7-0 to make it two from two. Nigeria will play their last group game against Brazil tonight.
