Andy Murray eases through Paris Masters opener

Andy Murray got his Paris Masters campaign off to a winning start this afternoon courtesy of a 6-1 6-2 victory over Borna Coric. When the two players met earlier in the year in Dubai, 18-year-old Coric caused something of an upset when he defeated the Scot in straight sets.

However, on this occasion world number three Murray took control of proceedings early on when he broke his Croatian opponent at the first time of asking.

The 28-year-old went on to convert another break opportunity later in the set, during which he dropped just one game and made only five unforced errors. Coric, who reached the third round of the French Open earlier this year, held his opening two services games of the second set, but he was then broken next time around as Murray took a 3-2 lead.

The two-time Grand Slam winner then held his own service game, before a second break of the Coric serve helped to wrap up the win just shy of an hour. Next up for Murray in the French capital will be Belgium’s David Goffin, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake
