F1 world champions reveals road accident involvement

Lewis Hamilton has revealed he was involved in a road accident in Monaco on Monday, confessing he was at fault for the incident.

The newly-crowned Formula One world champion took to social media to admit he was to blame, in order to prevent others “making a quick buck” from the situation.

Recent speculation suggested the Briton could miss this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix due to illness but Hamilton – posing on a plane whilst on the way to Sao Paulo – has moved to quash rumours he would miss the event and opened up about the accident.

“Dear TeamLH, just wanted to let you know why things have been quiet on social media the past few days,” he wrote.

“I’ve not been well with a fever but I also had a road accident in Monaco on Monday night.

“Whilst ultimately, it is nobody’s business, there are people knowing my position that will try to take advantage of the situation and make a quick buck. NO problem.

“Nobody was hurt, which is the most important thing. But the car was obviously damaged and I made very light contact with a stationary vehicle.

“Talking with the team and my doctor, we decided together that it was best for me to rest at home and leave a day later.”

The Mercedes driver wrapped up his third title at the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin in late October.
