76ers rookie Fultz out indefinitely with shoulder injury

An ongoing shoulder injury means Philadelphia 76ers rookie Markelle Fultz will be sidelined indefinitely and re-evaluated in three weeks.

The number one pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Fultz will remain out of action with “soreness and scapular muscle imbalance” in his right shoulder, the 76ers announced on Sunday.

On Wednesday, the 76ers said Fultz was expected to miss three games, which would have put him on track to return for Wednesday’s home clash against the Atlanta Hawks.

But that will not be the case following Fultz’s consultation with shoulder specialists, which ruled out structural damage.

The 19-year-old guard has been dealing with the shoulder issue since the start of preseason.

He opened the regular season as a reserve and averaged 19 minutes, 6.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists over Philadelphia’s first four games before being sidelined.

Fultz has shot just 33.3 per cent from the field so far this season and has not attempted a three-pointer.
