World Peace: Durant not part of Warriors dynasty

Metta World Peace says Kevin Durant will not be part of the Golden State Warriors dynasty until he has won another two NBA titles.

Durant was named NBA Finals MVP last year and claimed his first ring after the Warriors dethroned the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The small forward has top-scored for the Warriors in both games of the Western Conference Finals series against the Houston Rockets which is tied at 1-1 as he strives to claim back-to-back titles.

World Peace, a 2004 NBA All Star when he was known by his former name Ron Artest, says Durant has not yet done enough to be regarded in the same bracket as the likes of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Speaking to promote the launch of his new book, World Peace told Omnisport: “The Warriors are a dynasty, and as a kid we love dynasties. When you’re 15 years old you see [Michael] Jordan and the [Chicago] Bulls, you’re ‘Oh wow, this team is great!’ You look up to them, you want to be like them.

“I say the same thing for the Warriors. A lot of kids, right now, want to be like the Warriors. They want to be like Draymond. Draymond is great, I don’t care what people say – Hall of Famer, absolutely. He did what he had to do.

“I don’t see Kevin Durant as being a part of that dynasty. I say Kevin has to win this year or next year and then another one. If they win three in a row, that’d be amazing. Two dynasties, just mark them down.

“All Hall of Famers. [Andre] Iguodala, Hall of Famer. But I feel like Kevin must win because the Warriors, with Curry and Klay [Thompson] and Draymond, they already solidified that dynasty.

“Two rings, four appearances in the finals. Amazing – probably going to get there again, unless the Lakers can have something to say about it, which we will! Brandon Ingram and Julius [Randle]…We are the best, just not right now!

“But if Kevin wants to be part of that dynasty, just in my eyes, I think he needs to win two more.”
