Wade Barrett threatens to “batter” Roy Keane over Wayne Rooney criticism
Wrestler Wade Barrett has threatened to “batter” Roy Keane after the ex-Manchester United captain criticised Wayne Rooney for attending a recent WWE Raw event.
The current United skipper took part in a skit with Barrett while at the show in the Manchester Arena on November 9. In the fake stand-off, Rooney, who has scored seven goals for United this season, ended up slapping Barrett following a confrontation ringside.
Following United’s goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, Keane criticised Rooney’s form.
The Republic of Ireland assistant boss also questioned the striker’s off-field activity by telling ITV: “Last week I saw [Rooney] slapping a wrestler and I’m thinking ‘why is he getting involved in all that nonsense?’ There’s no benefit to him.
I’d have a look at that side of it.” After learning of Keane’s comments, Barrett tweeted: “If Roy Keane’s looking for a piece, I’ll batter him too.” Last night’s result for United means that the team will have to beat Wolfsburg in Germany in order to reach the final 16 of the competition.
