Diego Maradona ‘requests meeting with Argentina players before final group game’
Diego Maradona has reportedly requested a meeting with the Argentina national team ahead of their final World Cup group stage game.
Jorge Sampaoli’s side sit bottom of Group D after drawing 1-1 with Iceland in their opening game before losing 3-0 to Croatia on Thursday.
Maradona was seen to be extremely frustrated in the closing minutes of their latest game as he watched his side get picked apart by goals from Ante Rebic, Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
According to BBC Sport, Maradona has demanded to talk to the players before their final game against Nigeria on Tuesday, which they must win in order to have any hope of qualifying for the knockout rounds.
The 57-year-old won the World Cup trophy with Argentina in 1986.
