Marcelo to Miss Madrid Derby After Muscle Injury
Marcelo is set to miss the Madrid derby between Real and Atletico after suffering a muscle injury during the team’s shock defeat against Sevilla on Wednesday.
The Brazilian was substituted during the club’s 3-0 loss in midweek, and medical tests have confirmed that he sustained a soleus injury.
The full-back will not play until after the international break, and will certainly miss this weekend’s huge local derby.
This latest setback for Los Blancos will also see the defender miss their Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow on Tuesday, as well as the clash with Alaves on October 6.
However, Marcelo may make his return when Madrid host Levante on October 20, and will almost certainly be fit to face Barcelona at the end of the month.
The 30-year-old was recently recalled to Tite’s latest Brazil squad to face Saudi Arabia and Argentina, with Filipe Luis making way from the left-back options, but he will now miss those games.
