FIFA Ranking: Nigeria 16th best team in Africa, 66th in the World
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped from 59 t0 66 in the lastest FIFA ranking following their struggles against relatively unknown Swaziland in the WC Qualifiers.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria who played a goaless draw with the Swazis in Lobamba needed the brilliance of Simon Moses to break the stubborn Swazi defense before a tap from Ambrose sealed their 2-0 victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium (Port Harcourt).
As a resul of the latest FIFA ranking, it means the 2013 AFCON champions will finish 2015 as 66th placed team in the World and 16th ranked country in Africa behind Cote d’Ivore 19th, Algeria 28th, Ghana 33th, Cape Verde Island 39th, Tunisia 40th, Senegal 44th, Congo 48th, Guinea 50, Egypt 57th, Cameroon 59th, Congo DR 60th, Mali 62nd, Uganda 63rd, NIGERIA 66th.
World champions Germany have dropped from second to fourth place in the latest FIFA world rankings following their 2-0 friendly defeat at the hands of France last month.
Belgium end the year top, earning them FIFA’s Team of the Year award for 2015. Marc Wilmots’ men moved into first position for the first time in their history in November and a 3-1 victory over Italy in Brussels saw them hold on to the coveted spot for the final ranking of the calendar year.
Ivory Coast are the highest-placed African side in 19th, going up three places, while Mexico (22nd) are the best CONCACAF representative. Iran lead the way for AFC teams heading into the new year in 45th place.
Libya were the biggest movers of the month, going up 32 to 81st. Liberia, meanwhile, dropped more places than anyone else, down 21Â to 107th.
