Explained: How Nigeria’s D’Tigers could still book automatic Olympics ticket at FIBA World Cup
Nigeria men’s basketball team D’Tigers have restored their hopes of securing an automatic ticket for the 2020 Olympics games after today’s results.
Nigeria, today, did themselves a huge favour with a record 108-66 win against South Korea in their last group game at FIBA World Cup.
All hopes were lost after Nigeria were beaten 82-77, and 81-94 in their first two games against Russia and Argentina respectively.
But a record breaking result against South Korea and Puerto Rico’s 67-64 win against Tunisia meant there is all to play for at the classifications for an automatic place at the Olympics.
Angola, Tunisia who have won a game each like Nigeria have chances of securing an automatic ticket for the 2020 Olympics, but Nigeria with a huge point difference (+24) have a huge advantage.
With Nigeria’s (+24) point difference and Tunisia’s (-30), Angola’s (-74); D’Tigers need to win all their classification matches with good scores that Tunisia and other African teams could not match to qualify for 2020 Olympics as FIBA Africa rep.
