Manchester United legend Roy Keane has praised Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey after playing a huge role on his side’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The former Atletico midfielder was deployed in the midfield alongside Mohamed El Neny in Arsenal’s 3-4-3 formation and did great.
Thomas Partey was by far the best player on the pitch and he did a good job silencing Paul Pogba and other United midfielders.
The Ghanaian had the most touches, won the most duels, recovered the most balls, completed more take-ons and had the second most tackles in the narrow win against Manchester United.
Although, it was Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who scored the only goal from the spot kick, Keane was full of praise for Thomas Partey.
‘Outstanding,’ Keane replied when asked about the Ghanaian on Sky Sports.
‘He came from a big club, he’s played in big competitions. The more I look at him, the more I wish he was in United’s midfield.Â
‘Big, strong, aggressive. I think this kid has a chance to match what Patrick used to do. And he likes to pass it forward, he looks comfortable on the ball. Composure, good first touch.Â
Fellow pundit Jamie Redknapp was in agreement.Â
He said: ‘When I look at Partey he is like a throwback to what I think of as a midfield player. I don’t look at him as a No 6, 8, defensive midfield player I just think of him as a very good midfield player who can do everything.Â
‘I think about the Vieira’s, the Petits. He did everything I want to see.’
Arsenal victory sees them move up to ninth but just four points separates them from leaders Liverpool.
