NPFL Round-Up: 28th of December
Monday December 28th saw two fixtures in Matchday One of the new NPFL season, with Akwa United taking on city rivals, Dakkada FC at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, and Katsina United locking horns with Heartland FC at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
The Qua Iboe derby ended in a stalemate after 90 minutes of football, with the home side, Akwa United dominating much of the proceedings. However, the closest either side came to winning the game was when Dakkada’s Christian Ekong hit the post with a freekick. Both teams eventually had to settle for a point apiece.
Katsina United and Heartland produced a great deal of entertainment as they played out an exciting 3-2 scoreline, with the home side eventually picking up the maximum points from the game.
Katsina United had to deal with an early setback as Bright Onyedikachi scored a 2nd minute goal for Heartland. They found an equaliser late in the first half, Boubacar Masally sticking one into the net in the 44th minute. A late flurry of goals saw Heartland first retake the lead with 9 minutes of normal time left through Emmanuel Nnoshiri, but Katsina United had other ideas, as they found an 88th minute equaliser through Masally again, before completing the turnaround with a goal from Samuel Kalu in the 2nd minute of added time.
