Mourinho’s Spurs march into the Carabao Cup final

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Championship side Brentford in the semi-final of the 2020/21 Carabao Cup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday by two goals to nil. Brentford had stunned Premier League side, Newcastle United 1-0 in the Quarterfinals as Tottenham navigated their way past Stoke City.

Tottenham took an early lead in the 12th minute when energetic midfielder, Moussa Sissoko powered home a brilliant header from a Sergio Reguilon cross. Brentford suffered a second blow when Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele combined in midfield to send Heung Min Son through on goal where he finished expertly in the 70th minute of the game. Brentford were reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute when the hero of their quarterfinal game, Josh DaSilva’s tackle on Spurs man Pierre Emile Hojbjerg was deemed worthy of a sending off.

The win takes Tottenham Hotspur into their first domestic final since the 2014/15 Carabao Cup, where they lost to Jose Moirinho’s Chelsea team. They have failed to win any silverware since 2008 when they lifted the League Cup. With Mourinho’s finals record however, it is impossible to not think Spurs will go all the way this year. Jose Mourinho has never lost a League Cup final, winning the trophy in all of his 4 final appearances as Chelsea and Manchester United manager.

Tottenham Hotspur would now face one of Manchester United or Manchester City in the final at Wembley on April 25th.
