Canelo makes Saunders his 7th British victim to become unified super-middleweight champion

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has become the unified super-middleweight champion after an eighth-round TKO win against Billy Joe Saunders.

Canelo arrived at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as the WBA and WBC super-middleweight champions.

While his opponet Billy Joe arrived with his WBO super-middleweight champion and unbeaten in his last 30 fights.

But it was Saul Canelo Alvarez who took all the belts in front of the record crowd after Billy Joe corner stopped the fight at the start of the ninth round.

Saunders’ right eye was practically swollen shut, leading to his corner to throw in the towel before the start of the ninth round.

And Canelo who improved bis career record to 56-1-2 was declared the winner in front the 73,216 fans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – the largest crowd for an indoor boxing event in United States history.

Saul Canelo Alvarez has now beaten seven British boxers he faced – Matthew Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Rocky Fielding, Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders.
