Djokovic survives huge scare to qualify for French Open quarterfinals

Nadal goes through, Federer pulls out

World number one, Novak Djokovic, survived a huge scare in his French Open fourth-round match against 19-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musseti. The teenage qualifier won the first two sets 7-6 7-6 before Djokovic rallied to take the next two sets 6-1 6-0 to force a fifth set. The Italian youngster retired due to injury during the fifth set with Djokovic 4-0 up. Djokovic will now face Matteo Berettini in the quarterfinals of the French Open.

World number three and perennial French Open champion Rafael Nadal defeated 18th ranked Jannik Sinner 7-5 6-3 6-0 in straight sets as he made his way to the quarterfinals of the French Open. Nadal will face Argentina’s Diego Schwartzmann in the last eight of the competition before potentially facing Novak Djokovic in the semis.

World number eight, Roger Federer, has pulled out of the French Open after a pyrrhic victory over Dominik Koepfer in the third round. The 39-year-old won the game 7-6 6-7 7-6 7-5, but felt the strain on his knees after only having undergone a double surgery on them some months ago. He stated that his reason for pulling out of the tournament was so that he could focus on his recovery ahead of his favoured grass tournament in Wimbledon.
