Italy were at their glorious best when they handed Switzerland a 3-0 thrashing at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome in their second Group A match. The Italians opened the scoring through highly-rated Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli after just 26 minutes. The midfielder then doubled their advantage with a fierce left-footed drive into the bottom corner after 52 minutes, before striker Ciro Immobile continued his fine form with a well-taken goal on the cusp of full-time. The win takes Italy to 6 points and assures them of a place in the Round of 16. The Azzurri are now undefeated in 29 games and have kept cleansheets in each of their last 10 games.
In the other Group A game, Wales defeated Turkey 2-0 to all but book their place in the Round of 16 and leave Turkey staring at elimination. Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring with a well taken finish beyond the Turkey keeper Urgucan Cakir from a Gareth Bale pass, before Swansea City fullback Connor Roberts scored a second in second half stoppage time following more good work by captain Bale who missed a penalty earlier in the half. Turkey needs to beat Switzerland in their last game to stand any chance of going through to the knockout stage of the competition.
Russia prevailed over Finland 1-0 in their Group B Matchday 2 opener thanks to a superb finish from midfielder Aleksei Miranchuk in first half added time. The win was Russia’s first since the 2012 Euros, and it puts them on three points, level with Finland as they battle for qualification to the knockout stages.
