Roger Federer to partner Martina Hingis in mixed doubles at Rio 2016
Roger Federer has confirmed that he will partner Martina Hingis at next year’s Olympic Games in Rio in the mixed doubles.
The 17-time Grand Slam champion, who won gold in the doubles in Beijing 2008 and silver for Switzerland in the singles at London 2012, was approached by Hingis last spring.
“Yes, I will play with Martina the mixed,” Federer told reporters.
“I’m very excited about that because I haven’t played with her I guess in 15 years.
“I looked up to her when I was younger, I thought she was the most unbelievable talent.
She’s almost my age and she was winning Grand Slams while I was still at the national tennis centre, trying to make it on the tour and I couldn’t believe how good she was.
I’m very excited about that.
” The duo last played together in 2001 when they won the Hopman Cup.
