Akwa United opens up four-point gap at NPFL summit with win over Adamawa United

Promise Keepers extend remarkable undefeated run to 18 games

Akwa United defeated last-placed Adamawa United 2-0 in the first NPFL Matchday 28 fixture at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo to open up a four-point gap between them and their nearest rivals Kano Pillars, at the top of the NPFL table. The Promise Keepers also have done the double over Adamawa United, having beaten them in Gombe on Matchday 8.

Red-hot forward Charles Atshimene opened the scoring for the Promise Keepers after 25 minutes with his 10th NPFL goal of the season in his debut campaign at the club before NPFL great Mfon Udoh scored the side’s second on the stroke of halftime to double their advantage and give them all three points.

Akwa United have shown a remarkable level of consistency in the NPFL this season and are unbeaten in 18 matches, winning 10 and drawing 8 in that run. They now have 53 points, four more than second-placed Kano Pillars with 10 games remaining.
