Fury-Wilder trilogy fight postponed after COVID outbreak in Fury’s camp

The third fight between WBC champion Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder has been postponed from its previously assigned July 24th to a yet to be determined date after an outbreak of COVID-19 hit the camp of the Gypsy King, affecting the champion and some members of his team.

Fury defeated the American Deontay Wilder in February 2020 to claim the WBC title after their first fight held 14 months earlier ended in a stalemate. Earlier this year, the British pugilist was due to face fellow Briton Anthony Joshua, holder of the three other significant heavyweight titles, in a bid to unify the division, but the fight was stopped in favour of Fury’s third bout against Wilder after it was made clear that Wilder and Fury had a contract on ground already, and Fury had to honour the terms of the contract.

Fury’s unification bid against Joshua has also taken a big hit as the fight which was previously in the works must now be held at a later time. Joshua looks set to face Oleksandr Usyk in September at this time.
