Super Sunday in Sports with Copa America, Euros finals

Sunday, July 11th promises to be an action packed day in the world of sports, with the events lined up for the day. First, there is the final of the Copa America, after which Nigeria’s D’Tigers will take on their American counterparts. Later in the day, UFC 264 will take center stage in Las Vegas before the day ends with the Euro 2020 final.

1) Argentina vs Brazil in the Copa America final

Lionel Messi and Argentina will take on Neymar and Brazil in the final of the 2021 Copa America at the Maracana Stadium. Brazil are the defending champions and are undefeated in 13 matches, with their last defeat coming at the hands of Argentina in a 2019 friendly. Argentina, on the other hand, have failed to win the Copa America or any international trophy since 1993. They are also unbeaten in 18 matches, with their last defeat coming at the hands of Brazil in the 2019 Copa America. The match is set to kick off at 1 am on Sunday.

2. Nigeria vs USBMNT

In preparing for their Olympic games group, which contains Germany, Italy and Australia, the NBBF has fixed a friendly match between Nigeria’s D’Tigers and the US Basketball Men National Team. The US team contains a star cast of NBA ballers, including Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal and Bam Adebayo, among others. The match is due to take place at the same time as the Copa America final.

3. UFC 264 McGregor vs Poirier

The main event of UFC 264 at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is the trilogy fight between Connor McGregor and Dustin Poirier in the lightweight division. The fighters have met twice in the past, with each winning once. The winner of this fight gets a chance to compete for the UFC Lightweight championship title, making the stakes even higher.

4. Italy vs England in the Euro 2020 final

Football’s coming home (Rome). Two teams of contrasting styles will take on each other for the ultimate European prize at Wembley in the final of Euro 2020. Italy’s battle-hardened stars will face the golden boys of England in a matchup between two sides with contrasting styles and fortunes. England have not won a single trophy since the 1966 World Cup, and have reached their first-ever European Championship final. On the other hand, Italy’s last trophy incidentally came 15 years ago, 40 years after England last won a trophy, when they defeated France in Berlin to emerge as the 2006 World Cup champions. Both sides have played scintillating football en route to reaching the final, and the coaches Gareth Southgate and Roberto Mancini will be hoping their players can push themselves all the way one last time to seal what would be a huge victory.

5. Wimbledon Men’s Final

Novak Djokovic will face Italy’s Matteo Berrettini for a shot at immortality. The World number one against a fresh-faced Italian who had never reached the final of a Grand Slam before now.  A win for Djokovic would take him to 20 Grand Slam titles, equalling the haul of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, both of whom are in the final stages of their careers. Djokovic would aim to move closer to finally completing an elusive year of Grand Slams, having already won the Australian Open and French Open titles.
