McGregor loses to Poirier via 1st Round TKO after horror injury

UFC President White set to give McGregor fourth fight against Poirier

Connor McGregor lost at UFC 264 to America’s Dustin Poirier after the doctor asked that the match be stopped because McGregor had damaged his leg or ankle, suffering a fracture in the first round. The fight was awarded to Poirier, enraging McGregor.

There was an uncertainty as to whether McGregor suffered the injury when he kicked Poirier, or it was when he took a kick from Poirier that he fractured his leg. The referee stopped the match on the doctor’s orders after an examination was carried out on McGregor, who could not stand in the octagon.

The match ended in the most anticlimactic way possible, with McGregor showing his displeasure by sending vile abuse the way of Poirier, who was of the opinion that it was he who injured McGregor, and he was on top of the fight before the injury. UFC president Dana White announced that McGregor would undergo a surgery soon, and that a fourth match would take place between the Irishman and Poirier once he recovers.
