Federer beaten twice in IPTL
Roger Federer suffered defeat in his singles and doubles sets as the Philippine Mavericks defeated the UAE Royals 26-24 in the International Premier Tennis League on Monday.
Federer, having lost 6-4 to Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Treat Huey alongside Marin Cilic in the men’s doubles, then succumbed to Ivo Karlovic in the deciding men’s singles set by the same scoreline.
Earlier James Blake had put the Mavericks ahead with a 6-5 win over Goran Ivanisevic in the men’s legend’s singles before the Royals’ Kristina Mladenovic overcame Ajla Tomljanovic 6-2 in the women’s singles set.
The mixed doubles saw Cilic and Mladenovic lose 6-5 to Roger-Vasselin and Jarmila Gajdosova.
Meanwhile, the Indian Aces made it seven wins out of eight with a 25-18 triumph against Japan Warriors.
After Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza lost the mixed doubles to the Warriors’ Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Kirsten Flipkens, Agnieszka Radwanska beat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-1 and Fabrice Santoro crushed Thomas Enqvist 6-0 in the legend’s singles.
Those results gave the Aces command and victory was sealed when Bopanna and Ivan Dodig beat Herbert and Leander Paes in the men’s doubles 6-5, rendering Bernard Tomic’s 6-3 loss to Philipp Kohlschreiber immaterial.
