Iheanacho sends Leicester to Carabao Cup Fourth Round

Super Eagles striker has hand in both goals in 2-0 win

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho justified his inclusion in his side’s starting XI by scoring a brilliant goal and setting up another in their 2-0 win over Millwall in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

After being confined to the bench and starting only once this season, the Carabao Cup tie against lower division side Millwall gave Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers a chance to start his Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

After a drab first half that saw Millwall come closest to opening the scoring against their more experienced Premier League opposition, Iheanacho’s efforts lit up the game in the second half.

Leicester City opened the scoring as talented Nigerian-born winger Ademola Lookman scored his first goal for the club since his loan move earlier this summer. Iheanacho received the ball in the Millwall half and drove forward before unleashing a rasping drive from 20 yards, which was saved by Milwall goalkeeper George Long. The rebound fell kindly for Lookman to fire home an effort from close range in the 50th minute.

Leicester continued pushing despite having gone one goal up as they looked to kill off the tie. Their reward finally came in the shape of Iheanacho, who found the net only two minutes from time to finish off the scoring in the match.

The Nigerian striker received the ball wide on the right before proceeding to cut inside a defender onto his favoured side to create space for a shot. The Nigerian striker found the top left corner with a ferocious drive in the 88th minute that left the Millwall goalkeeper stranded. It was the first goal for Iheanacho since his brace for Nigeria against Liberia in September, and his first for the club since their Community Shield victory over Manchester City.

Iheanacho and Leicester City will look forward to their fourth round clash against Brighton & Hove Albion as Rodgers will surely be looking to secure more trophies for the club after their FA Cup success over Chelsea last season.
