Leicester City defeat Manchester United in six-goal thriller

Vardy scores for Leicester in fourth consecutive league match

A brilliantly orchestrated comeback saw Leicester City defeat Manchester United 4-2 at the King Power Stadium in their English Premier League matchday eight encounter at the King Power Stadium.

After a series of poor performances from the Red Devils, much was made of manager Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer’s future, with the club heading into a daunting run of fixtures domestically and on the continent.

Manchester United welcomed captain Harry Maguire back for the first time since he picked up an injury in their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa, and Marcus Rashford fit enough to be named on the bench for the first time since the Euro 2020 final.

Manchester United took the lead in brilliant fashion through youngster Mason Greenwood’s world-class strike after only 19 minutes. The forward received a short pass from Bruno Fernandes before proceeding to fire an effort off the inside of the upright from outside the box.

Manchester United’s lead lasted only twelve minutes before Leicester fashioned an equally sublime equaliser from Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans. Kelechi Iheanacho caught Maguire napping after he received a pass from De Gea. The Nigerian picked Maguire’s picked before slipping a pass to Tielemans, who curled an effort over the head of De Gea and into the top corner.

Leicester City found themselves in front for the first time in the match as Caglar Soyuncu bundled the ball home from close range in the 78th minute after Ayoze Perez prodded the ball towards him.

Rashford marked his first appearance of the season with a goal off the bench after Victor Lindelof released him with a ball over the top and the Englishman raced clear before finishing past Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the 82nd minute.

There was more drama down the line as Jamie Vardy put the Foxes back in front straight from kickoff in the 83rd minute, sending a half volley beyond the reach of De Gea after a pass from Perez. It was the Englishman’s fourth consecutive goalscoring league match for the Foxes.

Zambian striker Patson Daka scored his first goal for Leicester City in the 91st minute as he was on hand to tap home at the back post after a freekick from Tielemans ricocheted off a Manchester United defender.

A brilliant second-half performance saw Leicester City defeat Manchester United and now puts more pressure on the star-studded Red Devils to deliver positive results. Leicester have ended Manchester United’s record 29-match unbeaten away run in the English Premier League.
