Bayern 3 Barcelona 0: Broke Barça fail to make UCL last 16, miss out on huge prize money
Failed to make round of 16 for the first time since 2000/2001 season
Bayern Munich have condemned Barcelona to the Europa League after a 3-0 win against the Spanish team at the
Allianz Arena in the last group game on Wednesday.
Barcelona who are currently in financial mess needed a draw and hope for a favourable result in the other game between Benfica and Dynamo Kiev or an outright win.
But Xavi Hernandez and his boys failed to accomplish the impossible mission as they were condemned to a Europa place finish after finishing third behind Bayern and Benfica in the group.
Goals from angry Thomas Mueller, Leroy Sane and Nigerian-born Jamal Musiala ensured Bayern Munich secured all three points and a maximum win in their group.
So, Barcelona will now continue their continental campaign in the Europe second tier tournament, the Europa League, it is the first time since 2000/01 that they will be playing in the tournament.
They will now lose between €10.53 million and €15.2 million for not securing a place in the knockout round.
