Nigeria deserved their win – Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz

Carlos Queiroz the coach of the Pharaohs of Egypt has said the Super Eagles of Nigeria deserve the 1-0 win in their AFCON opener defeat on Tuesday.

Egypt were totally outsmarted by Nigeria in their group D opener at Stade Roumde Adjia and coach Carlos Queiroz admitted his opponents deserved their win.

“Nigeria deserve their win, we will recover and be ready for the next two games. We respect Nigeria a lot, we didn’t play well in the first half.

“In the second half, we dominated. We lost the ball very quick, we lost cohesion, but in the second half after the first half conversation, we played and control the game.”

The former Portugal and Real Madrid manager also expressed his unsatisfaction with the refereeing saying his side deserved a penalty.

The ex-Manchester United assistant manager was talking about an incident involving Simon Moses and one of his players.

“It was clear in the first half, we had a bad first half. Our opponent dictated the game, they deserve to take the lead in the first half.

“Second half, we created chances. We had a clean penalty and the referee didn’t award it. The situation of the penalty is not an excuse for our defeat.

“It was not our day and also for the referees. It was a penalty and it was impossible for VAR not to check it.”

The Pharaoh of Egypt continue their AFCON glory push with a clash against Guinea Bissau in the next group D game.
