Aboubakar breaks Etoo’s record to send Cameroon into last 8
Vincent Aboubakar continued his great run at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations after breaking Samuel Eto’o record enroute Cameroon’s 2-1 win against Comoros on Monday.
The former Porto striker who was the player of group stages after scoring five goals in three games, continued from where he stopped.
Cameroon had to labour for a 2-1 victory against a determined 10-man Comoros at the Stade Olembe in their round of 16 clash.
Comoros who were without many key players and all three goalkeepers due to injuries and Covid related issues had an outfield player Chaker Alhadhur as their goalkeeper.
Their situation was complicated when captain was sent off in the 5th minutes for a dangerous tackle on a Cameroonian player.
Cameroon failed to take advantage of the numerical advantage as they were pushed by Comoros, the goal eventually came for the Indomitable in the 29th minutes through Karl Toko Ekambi.
Vincent Aboubakar then made it two for Cameroon in the 70th minutes for his 6th goal of the campaign beating Samuel Eto’o record of most goals in a single AFCON tournament for Cameroon.
Youssouf M’Changama pulled one back for Comoros and they pushed for an equaliser but Andre Onana in goal for Cameroon denied them.
Cameroon will now play Gambia in the quarterfinal.
