AFCON2021: How Egypt Exploited Cameroon Weakness to book a Final Spot
With a total of 11 goals and a leaking defense, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon negotiated their way to the Semi Final of the 2021 African cup of Nations.
All seemed well for the Cameroonians who thought they were perfectly set up for any challenge on their way to the title on home soil. It was only a matter of time and a date with a formidable opposition for the weakness of the Indomitable Lions to hunt them down.
THE WEAKNESSÂ
All of Cameroons 11 goals at the 2021 AFCON were scored by two players Vincent Aboubakar (6) and Toko Ekambi (5). Against depleted opposition like Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Cape Verde, Comoros and Gambia the two forwards had freedom to roam and nick the goals to win the games.
Highest scoring side, two top scorers, No problem detected until the Carlos Quieroz tutoured Egyptian side arrived with a tactical approach which left Aboubakar and Ekambi unable to hit the goals as usual. 120 minutes of football went by and the Cameroonians failed to score for the first time at the AFCON.
Straight to the lottery of the penalty shootouts the Cameroonians still struggled to convert with the only successful kick coming from one of the usual sources Captain Vincent Aboubakar .
A curse or a weakness. Cameroons hopes of winning the 2021 AFCON Crashed at the feet of a Complete dependence on two players for goals. A third place playoffs vs Burkina Faso will offer an opportunity to right the wrongs and offer some relief to a disappointed nation.
