Tomori explains why Osimhen is the most difficult striker in Serie A
AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori is convinced that Victor Osimhen is the most difficult striker in the Italian Serie A.
Fikayo Tomori and Victor Osimhen went head-to-head on Sunday at the Diego Maradona Stadium where AC Milan secured an important 1-0 win against Napoli.
Victor Osimhen despite being left alone upfront with two strong, quick central defenders to deal with all by himself put in a great show.
He had two half-chances and both were on target forcing saves from his former Lille teammates in goal for AC Milan Mike Maignan.
Fikayo Tomori and his center half partner Pierre Kalulu did a good job but the former Chelsea defender revealed it wasn’t an easy task.
The Nigerian-born English defender explained why he is sure Victor Osimhen is a complicated striker to play against.
“There are very strong forwards like Lautaro, Dzeko, but Osimhen is really a very complicated opponent, strong and very fast,” Tomori told DAZN.
Milan coach Stefano Pioli also praised his defenders for the work they did going against the Nigerian striker.
“The duo Pierre Kalulu Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori? It was a tough game, when they caught us between the lines, we struggled a little bit,” said Pioli to DAZN.
“They had to play Victor Osimhen one-on-one and they did it with personality. We all worked well without the ball, we are very pleased.”
Olivier Giroud scored the only goal that settled the tie in Napoli.
AC Milan now sit top of the Serie A table with 60 points from 28 games having played one game more than Inter Milan with 58 points.
Victor Osimhen’s Napoli sits third with 57 points from 28 games.
