Ghana 99% certain they will host WCQ against Nigeria in one of their stadiums
as Cameroon, Morocco, and Benin on the standby as alternative hosts
Reports from Ghana are that they are 99% certain they will host their world cup qualifier first leg game against Nigeria in one of their Stadiums.
The issue of the venue to use for the first leg World Cup Qualifier clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana has been going on for weeks.
A picture of a terrible-looking Cape Coast Stadium, the approved Stadium for the first leg clash in Ghana surfaced online a few days before the country’s independent celebration.
The pitch appeared in a bad shape and unfit to host any local game let alone an international game.
As it should be, the Nigeria Football Federation reportedly reported the state of the pitch to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association who have sent an official to inspect the stadium.
In the past couple of hours, another picture of the stadium has surfaced online which showed that the grass on the field is growing but still not in the best shape yet.
The FIFA representative Ivan was said to be in the country and checked out the Cape Coast Stadium and other alternatives that can be used.
And according to Ghanaian journalist Muftawu Nabila Abdulai, the game will definitely be staged in Ghana.
“Ivan is done inspecting Cape Coast stadium and he’s having lunch.
“It’s now a FIFA decision to make between Cape Coast stadium and Baba Yara as a report submitted to the world governing body, was positive.
“Baba Yara – Excellent
“Cape Coast – will be ready in…days.
“He was given a simple assignment.
“Cameroon, Benin, and Morocco. Potential countries to host
“Ivan’s flight about to take off. He delivered his report on Ghana’s facilities on Monday and leaves Ghana at 14:00 GMT today.
“His report will determine whether Ghana will host Nigeria in Cape Coast or Kumasi or even outside Ghana.
“I am 99% certain that Black Stars v Super Eagles game will be played in Ghana.”
