Do Alex Iwobi and Everton have the liver to hurt Liverpool’s Quadruple hopes today ?

- Relegation battling Toffees Face tough Anfield test today.

Nigerian Midfielder Alex Iwobi has been a key figure in Frank Lampard’s roster for Everton. The Nigerian is expected to start in today’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield.

Do they have the liver to contain Liverpool’s pressing forwards and grind out a result that would hurt the Quadruple hopes of their Merseyside rivals and help their fight against the drop with just a point separating them from 18th placed Burnley.

Liverpool will begin the encounter as Favourites a fact supported by Everton Manager Frank Lampard who conceded his team are ” Underdogs ” ahead of the 240th Merseyside derby vs Liverpool.

Relegation-threatened Everton are in 17th place in the Premier League standings on 29 points, with a game in hand over 18th-placed Burnley, who have 28 points from 32 games.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain one point behind leaders Manchester City at the top of the table and are hunting an unprecedented quadruple. Failure to defeat Everton today will certainly hurt their chances of 4/4.

The Toffees won 2-0 at Anfield last season and, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s game, Lampard discussed what it would take to repeat that victory and boost his side’s survival chances.

“It’s a huge fixture. I have watched it from afar many times. I am very happy to be involved,” he said.

“You can’t always control the result. This game brings a different energy to it. I expect passion, fight and desire. There’s not a game plan in the world that will work without that.

“We’re playing the strongest team, on form, in the league. You have to use that as a positive. We have to fight until the last minute, no matter what happens. We are the underdogs, that’s clear. But we have to fight!”

One player Frank Lampard will trust for this fight is Alex Iwobi. The Nigeria international has started and completed 5 consecutive games under Frank Lampard, a demonstration of how much trust the English man has in his ability.

The former Arsenal man who has been in and out of the Everton side since moving from North London in the summer of 2019 is really enjoying the confidence of his manager but their position at the wrong end of the standings is something he and others must fight to rectify.

There is no bigger way to hurt a rival than this. Put in a fantastic performance, take a point or three to boost your chances of survival and deny them a chance at what would be an historic Quadruple.

Can Everton stop Liverpool at Anfield?
