U-17 WAFU Cup: Golden Eaglets through to semis after win over Togo
Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets ended their group stage campaign at the ongoing U-17 WAFU Cup with a 100% record after a 3-1 win over Togo in their final Group A game at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana.
Having defeated Ghana’s Black Starlets 4-2 in their opening match, the Golden Eaglets knew a win against their Togolese counterparts would send them through to the semi-finals of the competition.
Like in the first match against Ghana, the Nigerian side struck early in the match through Kevwe Iyede’s 13th minute effort. It took only eight minutes for the Nigerian boys to double their advantage through Precious Williams, who scored his second goal of the tournament.
Togo pulled one back in the second half through Komi Ahouankpo in the 75th minute, but just like against Ghana, Light Eke came off the bench to have the final say with a well-taken finish in the 82nd minute.
The Golden Eaglets have now sealed their progression to the semi-finals of the U-17 WAFU Cup in Ghana. A win for them in the semi-finals would guarantee them a place at the next U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
