Kerber, Sakkari crash out at the hands of underdogs
Novak Djokovic continued with his quest to win a fourth straight Wimbledon title by booking his place in the fourth round at the expense of Miomir Kecmanovic. The top seed claimed a straight sets win 6-0 6-3 6-4 to overcome his 26th seed opponent at the All England Club.
Carlos Alcaraz Garfia’s stock continued to rise as the teenager booked his place in the fourth round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament. The 19-year-old defeated Germany’s Oscar Otte in straight sets 6-3 6-1 6-2 to progress past him in their third round meeting.
Despite losing in straight sets to Jannik Sinner, John Isner set a new Wimbledon recordWimbledon record for most aces made in the history of the competition. The big-serving American has made 13,748 aces in the competition since the start of his career. The 37-year-old lost to Sinner 4-6 6-7 3-6 to miss out on a place in the fourth round.
Frances Tiafoe had to come back from a set down to defeat Alexander Bublik and book his place in the fourth round of the competition. The American won the match 3-6 7-6 7-6 6-4 to progress to the next round.
Ninth seed Cameron Norwich defeated Steve Johnson in straight sets to qualify for the fourth round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament. The Brit claimed a 6-4 6-1 6-0 win in the game.
In the women’s draw, 5th seed Maria Sakkari was stunned by world number 103 Tatjana Maria in straight sets. The German player Maria claimed a 6-3 7-5 win over her opponent.
Ons Jabeur defeated Diane Parry in straight sets 6-2 6-3 to qualify for the fourth round of the competition at the All England Club.
Heather Watson reached the fourth round in Wimbledon for the first time in her career after a 7-6 6-2 straight sets win over Kaja Juvan.
Elise Mertens defeated 2018 winner Angelique Kerber 6-4 7-5 to book her place in the fourth round of the 2022 Wimbledon tournament.
